Labour Shortage and Tight Deadlines? Saudi Contractor Uses Hydraulic Cable Puller & Tensioner Package for High-Efficiency Stringing with Fewer Workers

Labour Shortage and Tight Deadlines? Saudi Contractor Uses Hydraulic Cable Puller & Tensioner Package for High-Efficiency Stringing with Fewer Workers

2025-08-08

Saudi Arabia has been investing heavily in energy transition and infrastructure upgrades, leading to a surge of new and refurbished high-voltage transmission projects. This brings two major pressures to contractors: on one hand, skilled workers are in short supply and labour costs are rising; on the other hand, owners and EPC companies are imposing strict schedule and milestone requirements. How to maintain both progress and quality with limited manpower has become a key challenge for Saudi contractors.

In this project, the contractor chose a complete Hydraulic Cable Puller & Tensioner package, including SA-YQ60 Hydraulic Cable Pullers and SA-YZ50 Hydraulic Tensioners, to build a more automated and efficient stringing system. With this setup, the number of operators needed on site was significantly reduced, while the daily stringing output increased considerably.

During construction, the SA-YQ60 units provided stable pulling force, and the SA-YZ50 units ensured precise tension control. Together, they transformed the stringing process from one heavily reliant on manual experience to a standardized, parameter-controlled workflow. The crew only needed to set the pulling speed and tension range according to the line design and site conditions, then monitor and fine-tune through the control panel. Communication between tower sites became more efficient, and coordination during critical crossings was much easier.

The customer reported that, under the same schedule constraints, the use of the Hydraulic Cable Puller & Tensioner system shortened the stringing time per section, reduced dependence on temporary labour, and helped keep overall labour costs under control. At the same time, because the process was more controllable, rework rates went down and acceptance became faster, improving overall project profitability.

The Saudi contractor concluded that this “fewer workers, higher efficiency” stringing model will be promoted across more transmission line projects in the future. They plan to treat SA-YQ60 hydraulic cable pullers and SA-YZ50 hydraulic tensioners as standard equipment to address long-term pain points such as labour shortages and tight schedules, while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
