A power installation contractor in Brunei required a cable conveying system for the installation of a heavy power cable on cable trays.
The cable had an outside diameter of approximately 100 mm and a weight of approximately 21.3 kg/m. Because of the cable weight and the installation route, using only manual handling or a single pulling point would make it difficult to maintain stable cable movement along the tray.
The project therefore required several cable conveyors positioned along the cable route and operated under synchronized control.
| Item | Project Requirement |
|---|---|
| Country | Brunei |
| Application | Power cable laying on cable tray |
| Cable Outside Diameter | Approx. 100 mm |
| Cable Weight | Approx. 21.3 kg/m |
| Installation Distance | Approx. 40 m per conveyor |
| Cable Conveyor | GSS-5Z |
| Quantity | 4 units |
| Control Requirement | Multi-machine synchronized control |
| Site Power Supply | 230/400 VAC |
For heavy power cables, the installation force should not be concentrated only at the pulling end.
By positioning cable conveyors at intervals along the cable route, conveying force can be distributed at several points. This helps maintain smoother cable movement and reduces the manual effort required during installation.
For this project, approximately four GSS-5Z cable conveyors were planned, with approximately 40 metres of cable route supported by each machine, depending on the final site arrangement.
The four cable conveyors were configured with a wired synchronized control system.
The centralized control system allows the machines to perform coordinated:
Forward operation
Reverse operation
Start
Stop
Speed adjustment
Emergency stop
Communication between the machines is provided through wired control connections, making the configuration suitable for coordinated operation during cable laying.
The GSS-5Z Electric Cable Conveyor was selected because it is designed for heavy power cable installation where several machines may need to operate together along the same cable route.
The rubber track structure provides a large contact area with the cable while helping protect the cable outer sheath during conveying.
For projects involving different cable diameters, cable weights or laying distances, the number and spacing of conveyors should be determined according to the actual cable route and site resistance.
Before shipment, the cable conveyors are checked for:
Forward and reverse operation
Conveyor track movement
Motor operation
Control box functions
Communication between multiple conveyors
Start and stop response
Emergency stop function
Speed adjustment
General mechanical condition
The machines are also inspected before packing to confirm the configuration and accessories required for the project.
This synchronized cable conveyor configuration can be used for:
Power plant cable installation
Underground power cable laying
Cable tray installation
Substation projects
Industrial electrical construction
Long-distance heavy cable installation
Cable diameter alone is not sufficient to determine the correct machine configuration.
For a cable laying project, the following information is normally required:
Cable outside diameter
Cable weight per metre
Total laying distance
Cable tray, trench, duct or tunnel installation
Number and angle of bends
Required installation speed
Site power supply
Whether synchronized multi-machine operation is required
With these details, the number, spacing and control configuration of the cable conveyors can be evaluated for the actual project.
